Visto che la Bliss Stick non riusciva a commercializzare degnamente la Tuna (design del 2011 di Kenny Mutton), Sam Sutton, che nel frattempo è riuscito a vincere ben 3 edizioni della Sick Line con lei, ha portato lo stampo in Rep. Ceca, ha cambiato il marchio in Waka (mantenendo il nome di Tuna) ha alleggerito lo scafo e ha cominciato la commercializzazione in Europa.

Oggi l’ho provata tanto per cambiare nel tratto da me più conosciuto, Soča, tratto Srpenica-ponte rotto, livello medio, 45mcs e ho avuto buone sensazioni.

La barca è un puro creeker da gara, combina un evidente e generoso rocker in punta con un fondo semi-piatto dotato di rail per migliorare le prestazioni in conduzione. Gli interni appaiono molto spartani, semplici, ma funzionali. Il premicosce è del tipo avvolgente, non il mio preferito, ma devo dire che su questa barca funziona egregiamente.

Prima sensazione prima di entrare in acqua è il peso, notevolmente ridotto rispetto alle sue dirette concorrenti. Il sito dichiara 21kg e mi sembrano corretti. Una volta seduti la Tuna risulta estremamente comoda, almeno per me che peso sui 70kg, ma allo stesso tempo non ci navigo dentro, la sento giusta.

In acqua è un vero missile, accelera subito e mantiene la velocità nonostante il rocker pronunciato. Ha una buona stabilità sia primaria che secondaria, ma si riesce a lavorare perfettamente sui fianchi senza che tenda a tornare giù, è un piacere da portare. Manovrabilità eccezionale per un mezzo da 260cm, gira da sola. E nella parte conclusiva della discesa, nel campo slalom, non ha fatto una piega, sia nei buchi, nelle turbolenze laterali, nelle morte ribollenti e nel boof. Scafo decisamente ottimo.

Sul sito viene consigliata per pesi da 70 a 110kg, ma non concordo con tale assunto, per me è decisamente una taglia M, quindi perfettamente adatta al mio peso, ma non credo per pesi oltre gli 85kg.

As Bliss Stick was not able to penetrate the EU market with the Tuna worthily (designed in 2011 by Kenny Mutton), Sam Sutton, who in the meantime succeeded in winning 3 Sickline editions in a row with it, moved the mould to Czech Rep., re-branded it in Waka (while maintaining the name Tuna) had decreased the hull weight and started to sell it across Europe.

Today I’ve tested it for a change in the stretch I know the most, Soča River, Srpenica-broken bridge section, medium flow, 45cms and I got a good feeling.

The boat is a pure race creeker, it combines a clear massive rocker with a semiplanning hull with rails in order to improve carving performance. The outfitting are a bit too simple, but functional. The thigh braces are the ones that contain the thighs, not exactly my favourite, but I have to say that for this boat it works fine.

First feeling before sitting in the boat is the weight, extremely low compared to its competitors. Web site declares 21kgs and it seems right. Once in the boat I can feel it very confortable, at least for me, I’m 70kgs, but at the same time I’m not too wide inside, I feel it right.

In the water it’s a real missile, it takes off immediately and it maintains the speed despite the pronounced rocker. It shows a good primary and secondary stability, but you can work easily putting it on the sides without it comes back down too soon, it’s a real pleasure to drive.  Exceptional manouvrability for a boat 260cm long, it turns on a dime. In the final section, the slalom course, it didn’t bat an eyelash, either in holes or in side turbulences or in boiling eddies or in boofs. The hull is really amazing.

The web site recommends as paddler weight 70 to 110kgs, but I don’t agree completely, to me it’s a real M size, hence perfectly suitable to my weight and I don’t believe beyond 85kgs it’s the best boat.
