Dagger Katana - IT

Test in acqua piatta – Piero Linda
Promette prestazioni eccellenti in acqua piatta e in acqua mossa, staremo a vedere…

Test in acqua mossa – Beppe Caramella

Flat water test – by Piero Linda
Latest launch from Dagger, the crossover available in two sizes, 9.7 and 10.4.
It promises excellent performance in both flat water and white water, we’ll see…
First impression is that this kayak will meet all the expectations, effectively I found it very confortable and,  in flat water, extremely stable, manouvrable and easy to paddle. Then it’s very fast for this kind of boats, infact we got 6.6 km/h average speed even paddling in a relaxed way, with a peak speed of 8.7 km/h, measured with gps Garmin on the Lake Predil, in Friuli Venezia Giulia, at 958m of altitude.
I can easily say that the test has been fully passed, speed is almost like a sea kayak, stability and manouvrability like a creek kayak, comfortable, with big enough volume, big load capacity in the rear hatch, surely a nice choice to consider for those who wish one only kayak to use for daily trips on the lake or sea and for river runs on class 3 or even more.

White water test – by Beppe Caramella
Crossover, a new market segment in the kayak world, straight from the automotive world. But if those type of car don’t attract me too much, I have to say that crossover kayak intrigue me quite a lot. As the word, they adapt for the use in different environments. From the lake to the sea, from the shallow river to white water. But what’s the limit? As usual it depends on how much you know your stuff… but I’d say more than you may believe. But let’s see how it behaves in the river.
Personally I tested the 9.7, the smaller one, on the Slovenian stretch of Soča River in Trnovo, slalom course included until the broken bridge, at 40cms flow (medium level) and I was favorably impressed.
The outfittings are basic, but they do the job, the weight is reasonable, compared to what you can find now…  On the initial part – class 2 and 3 – I had immediately noted that it’s fast, it has a very good both primary and secondary stability while maintaining well the line. By increasing the difficulty in the water, it didn’t bat an eyelash, very accurate in the waves and through the holes that I’ve tried to deal specifically with reduced speed. Manouvrability is more than enough and honestly I was expecting worse. The boat doesn’t turn on a dime, but enough. You need to lift the side in a more pronounced way if I have to turn faster, but ok. For sure it’s not a creek boat and it’s not an auto-boof machine, but it’s very nice to use.
In summary, very good up to class 4, no problem. Beyond that, only on volume rivers, not exactly for class 5 narrow steep creeks. A good choice to consider as an “all-round” boat.
