ZET Director Test

What can I say... never thought I will be too small for a boat but here it is.
I got to try the Director for one day on the Soca river, so everything i have to say is based on paddling Soca cateract at about 35 to 40 cumecs.

The first thing I noticed was, for a kayak this size the director is pretty light but doesn`t offer as much space as you would expect. Seat adjustments work Zet-like-easy and take about 5 minutes to make it comfortable.

On the water you start to feel the length of the boat immediately resulting in very good straight forward acceleration and speed. If you want to turn corners you will have to get the Director on its edges. It will not change the direction by simply putting your blade in for a counter stroke and waiting for magic to happen. But if you make solid strokes and put the boat on its edges, it will react very smooth and for a kayak this size surprisingly agile.

Boofing is another story. I didn`t think the boat boofs very well. This shouldn`t be a big surprise given the long waterline. You will need force to boof, question is if you need Stomper like action for this monster to clear big features. As far as you can say on Soca at medium levels, nothing could stop the Director :) (and maybe I`m just too light and weak...)

So overall I thought that with 85 Kilos I`m probably a little too light for this kayak. Also a good technique will help you to get the best out of this baby. So if you`re an ex-Slalom kayaker with now over 90 kilos running hard stuff you will definitely have a good choice in the Director.

Greetz, Reiner

so back in my Stomper 90, this weekend I had a little Salzkammergut trip with my wife, enjoy the pics...
