Oggi vi presento due prodotti di Level Six, un’azienda
canadese produttrice di abbigliamento ed equipaggiamento per sport acquatici,
incluso kayak. Forse non troppo chiaro dal titolo, ma stiamo parlando di una
maglia in neoprene a manica lunga e di pantaloni a tre quarti con interni in
neoprene.
Partiamo dalla maglia, cosa la rende speciale rispetto ad un
classico top in neoprene. Direi lo strato interno, costituito da un tessuto innovativo
che permette una traspirazione epidermica ed un comfort pari ad una T-shirt in
cotone. Ma allo stesso tempo lo strato esterno in neoprene (esente da
idrocarburi) da 0,5mm contribuisce a proteggere e mantenere caldo il corpo.
Sinceramente non amo particolarmente il neoprene, l’ho eliminato completamente
dalla mia attrezzatura canoistica, ma con questo capo è tutto un altro effetto,
è realmente confortevole, leggero e al tempo stesso caldo. Durante la stagione
più calda può eventualmente essere utilizzato anche come giacca d’acqua. Bel
prodotto, consigliato!
Gli short a tre
quarti sono un altrettanto valido prodotto, esteticamente gradevoli, sia nella
versione arancio che in quella nera, costituiti da uno strato esterno in Nylon
e Spandex che conferiscono robustezza, morbidezza ed elasticità, ed da uno
interno in morbido neoprene da 0,5mm. Sono dotati di un supporto lombare in
neoprene più rigido che li rende più alti in vita, ma che offre una valida
protezione sia strutturale che termica in una zona delicata del corpo. Chiusura
a zip più due bottoni, cintura incorporata regolabile e tre tasche capienti di
cui una ad altezza coscia sinistra tutte dotate di chiusura a zip, molto
apprezzate ed utilizzate dal sottoscritto. In sostanza un ottimo capo, molto
comodo quando indossato e che ho utilizzato in diverse discese quest’anno in
situazioni più o meno “estreme”. L’unico “neo” a mio parere è la lunghezza, nel
mio caso arrivano giusto sotto il ginocchio anche da seduto in kayak, quindi
ok, ma fossero stati un dieci cm più
lunghi sarebbero perfetti.
Li consiglio per
utilizzo in kayak praticamente in tutte le occasioni, tranne eventualmente per
spedizioni in periodi molto freddi o discese impegnative molto lunghe con
frequenti soste per “scouting”.

Today I’m
going to introduce you to two new products from Level Six, a Canadian company specialized
in appareal and gears for water sports, including white water kayak. Perhaps
it’s not too clear from the heading, but we’re talking about a long sleeve
neoprene vest and a neoprene lined ¾ length short.
Let’s start
from the vest, what does it make it so special compared to a classic neoprene
vest. I’d say the inner layer, made of an innovative fabric that
allow your skin to breathe and wicks the moisture away and as comfortable as a
cotton shirt next to your skin. But at the same time the outer 0.5mm neoprene
layer (hydrocarbon-free) provides protection and warmth to your body. Honestly,
I don’t particularly love neoprene, I completely removed from my kayak gear
kit, but with this piece of garment it’s a totally different story, it’s comfortable,
light and warm at the same time. During the warmer season you can eventually
use as a dry top. Nice product,
highly recommended!
The ¾ shorts are equally an effective product,
esthetically pleasant, either in orange or in black color, made of an outer
Nylon and Spandex layer that provide robustness, softness and flexibility and
of a 0.5mm soft neoprene inner layer. They are equipped with a harder neoprene
back support that make them high-waisted, but that offers a solid protection
both structural and thermal in a sensitive area of the body. Snap front, zipper
fly with belt closure and side zipper pockets very much appreciated and used by
me. In summary a great piece of
garment, very comfortable and that I used in different kayak runs this year in
more or less “extreme” situations. The only drawback to me is the limited length, in
my case they are just below my knees even when sit in the kayak, so, fine, but
if they had been 10cm longer they would be perfect.
I recommend them for anything like white-water kayak
run, but eventually for expeditions in extreme weather conditions or very
challenging, long and with frequent scouting runs.
