Raptor! What is this?
This is the question that I heard for 5 weeks on a kayak trip in California whit my Raptor. I thing,that is time to write something, for those who don´t know what Raptor is.
Firstly Raptor is a model of kayak from a new Czech brand Zet Kayaks, designed by Viktor Legat, Honza Lasko and produced by Zelezny. They use the special »Zelezny Technology« which enables boats to be lighter and stronger than the other kayaks. This is how they describe the company and those are not just empty words!
So, what is the point, what is new?
A lot, the first thing that make the biggest difference is the outfit and shape. Outfit makes the boat stronger, this is the funny thing because it connects the hall outfit with the boat and at the same time is really comfortable and everything is regulable, juhuu for those how like different outfit! Making this outfit save a lot of kilos on weight and makes the boat lighter.
Normally, what makes the biggest difference between boats, is the shape and Raptor is on the top of my shape list. Some boats have too much or too less edges, big nose or small tail, there is always something that is not calibrated. Raptor is smooth and balanced, it have enough edges to keep control and doesn’t get stocked on boofs or rocks. For long the designers were making the boats smaller and at the same time slower in name of control, thankfully Zet made raptor in that way that is still fast. I think that is not so hard to understand that there is slalom kayaker and a creek boater behaind designing. Raptor have flat bottom to keep the speed that you need at the same time is enough »banana« to lend soft on big waterfalls, boofs and drops. Hull is narrow like a slalom boat but wide enough to keep balance. For shore you need a stronger stroke to lift the nose sometimes, but all in the name of speed! Fun boat when you wona play, predictable and precise when you go big.
This is the boat that will keep you fast under control all the rest is up to you! There are things that money can not buy, for shore you can by Raptor.

La maggior differenza tra i vari modelli di kayak, di solito, la fa la forma dello scafo, e il Raptor è al top della mia lista dei design preferiti. Certi kayak hanno troppi rails, o troppo pochi, punta grossa e coda piccola, non sempre tutto è equilibrato. Raptor è morbido e bilanciato, ha i rails abbastanza pronunciati per mantenere facilmente il controllo ma non troppo da creare problemi sulle rocce e nei boof. A lungo sono state disegnati kayak piccoli e quindi lenti nel nome di manovrabilità e controllo, fortunatamente Zet hanno fatto il Raptor che grazie alle misure e proporzioni adeguate mantiene un’ottima velocità. Non è difficile capire che dietro questo design c’è una collaborazione tra uno slalomista e un canoista estremo.
Raptor! E questo cosè?
Questa è la domanda che mi sono sentito ripetere per cinque settimane durante il mio viaggio in California con il mio Raptor. Mi sembra sia giunto il momento di scrivere qualcosa per chi ancora non sa cos’e un Raptor.
Raptor è un modello della nuova azienda ceca Zet Kayaks, disegnato da Viktor Legat e Honza Lasko è prodotto da Zelezny. Viene utilizzata la “Zelezny Technology” che permette di produrre kayaks più leggeri e robusti della concorrenza. Cosi descrivono la compagnia, e non si tratta di sole parole.
Quindi, dov’è il punto? Cosa c’è di nuovo?
Molto, le prime differenze sono nella forma dello scafo e nell’outfitting. In questo caso l’outfit rende il kayak più solido e meno soggetto a deformazioni connettendo il sedile allo scafo e lo scafo alla coperta pur rimanendo molto confortevole e completamente regolabile, juhuu per tutti i canoisti che vogliono uscire dalle impostazioni standard! Il tutto fa risparmiare alcuni chili con il risultato di un kayak molto più leggero.

Zet Raptor ha il fondo piatto per mantenere la velocità e planata quando necessario ma un buon rocker per atterraggi morbidi nelle grandi cascate, boof e salti. Lo scafo è stretto come un kayak da slalom ma ancora abbastanza largo da mantenere la stabilità. Sicuramente ti servirà una pagaiata più potente per sollevare la punta ma in nome della velocità questo è di poco conto! Divertente quando vuoi giocare, prevedibile e sicuro nei percorsi duri.
Questo è il kayak che ti manterrà veloce e sotto controllo, tutto il resto dipende da te! Ci sono cose che il denaro non può comprare ma un Raptor sicuramente si.
