Euro kayak 2013 - Soca Slovenjia

Vi riporto qualche impressione direttamente dai campionati Europei di kayak – discesa fluviale 2013 che si sono tenuti in Slovenjia sul fiume Soca in località Trovo on Soci.

Personalmente ho seguito la gara a squadre del percorso classico e l’intera edizione della gara sprint (individuale e a squadre).

In generale devo dire complimenti al comitato organizzatore che ha saputo ben gestire le bizze del tempo e di conseguenza il continuo variare del livello del fiume, tanto che le prove della gara sprint di sabato sono state annullate per livello troppo alto del tratto di fiume interessato.  Purtroppo – sempre a causa livello alto – la gara sprint di domenica è stata spostata nei 500m a monte del ponte di Trnovo invece che nel tratto a valle decisamente più spettacolare, ma il concetto di sicurezza è stato posto in cima alla lista delle priorità.

Ma veniamo alla competizione, 12 nazioni partecipanti e per curiosità ho notato l’assenza di Spagna e Inghilterra. Delle 12 presenti, 7 sono andate a medaglia e la vittoria assoluta è andata alla Francia con 23 medaglie guadagnate su 54 assegnate seguita dalla Rep. Ceca con 12, dalla Germania con 7 e dalla compagine Slovena ospitante con il ragguardevole bottino di 6 medaglie, congratulazioni! L’Italia porta a casa un argento e due bronzi, risultato piuttosto deludente visto in assoluto, ma con la piacevole sorpresa di un’ottima Marlene Ricciardi da Sarzana che si guadagna un argento e un bronzo da sola nel C1 femminile.

Sul campo di gara le emozioni non sono state numerosissime, tranne nel C1 femminile dove qualche atleta ci ha deliziato con qualche “candela” a seguito di una non proprio corretta linea che le ha condotte direttamente in un bel buchetto.

Un paio di nuotate hanno poi contribuito a testare l’attenzione dei soccorritori, pronti devo dire ad un ottimo intervento.

Tutto sommato un’edizione riuscita e ben strutturata, solo peccato per il tempo che avrebbe garantito più spettacolo nel tratto di fiume previsto inizialmente e più divertimento nel party di sabato sera.

Here are some impressions straight from the Euro kayak championship – wildwater 2013 held in Trnovo ob Soci Slovenjia on the river Soca.

I’ve been following the team race of the classic run and the whole sprint races both individual and team.

Generally speaking I have to congratulate with the organizational committee who was perfectly able to handle the crazy weather conditions and consequently the continuous river level change, so that Saturday’s qualifications were cancelled due to a too high water level. Unfortunately, always for the same reason, Sunday’s sprint race has been moved 500m upstream from Trnovo’s bridge instead of the downstream stretch, definitely a lot more spectacular, but the concept of “safety first” was high on the priority list.

So concerning the competition itself, we could count 12 different countries, but with the absence of UK and Spain. Among the 12, 7 got medals and the absolute winner was France with 23 medals gained upon 54 given, followed by Czech Rep. with 12, Germany with 7 and by the hosting country Slovenjia with a considerable 6 medals booty, congratulations! Italy comes back home with only one silver and two bronzes, an absolute quite disappointing result, but with the nice surprise coming from Marlene Ricciardi from Sarzana who proudly took one silver and one bronze herself in C1 women.   

On the race playground, not so many excitations, a part from some nice unwanted freeride moves coming from some C1 women athlets ended in a stopper after a not exactly perfect line.

A couple of swims contribute to test rescue team’s attention, but they were absolutely ready for the operation.

All in all a successful edition and well organized, only a small regret for the weather conditions where we could have seen more fun in either the sprint race with the stretch initially foreseen, or in the Saturday night party.
